Spinal Decompression Near South Salt Lake, Utah

Spinal decompression for people from South Salt Lake is available at Mecham Chiropractic, about 4.7 miles south via 700 East at 4700 South 900 East on the Murray–Millcreek line, where the DRX9000 table is used for disc-related back pain and sciatica after an exam.

South Salt Lake is mostly flat, low on the valley floor beside the Jordan River. Flat ground is kind to the knees. It doesn't do much for a disc that hates the driver's seat.

Down 700 East, along the city's own edge

City limits run from the Jordan River on the west to 500 East and 700 East on the east, and from 2100 South down to 3900 South. That eastern edge is your road.

From City Hall near Morris Avenue and 200 East, the routing engine heads south on 300 East, east on 2700 South to 700 East (SR-71), then south on 700 East about 2.6 miles to 4500 South. Turn east to 900 East, go south, and look for the plaza on the right just before the Van Winkle junction. Around 4.7 miles in total.

If you ride TRAX, here's an oddity: Millcreek station, on the Blue and Red lines at 3300 South, is actually in South Salt Lake. The clinic has a naming quirk of its own, since its mailing address says Millcreek while the building sits across 900 East from that city, and the Millcreek page explains why.

To the southwest, Taylorsville comes in on 4500 South.

Spaghetti Bowl, streetcar and Fitts Park

I-15, I-80 and SR-201 meet in the city's northwest corner at the interchange known as the Spaghetti Bowl, while State Street (US-89) runs through the heart of town and 3300 South (SR-171) crosses it east to west. If your commute threads through there, count it as seat time.

Transit's the other option. All three TRAX lines enter at Central Pointe station, and the S Line streetcar, running since December 2013, stops at South Salt Lake City, 300 East and 500 East. UTA's headquarters is here too, at 3600 South 700 West.

A little history. South Salt Lake became a town on September 29, 1938, and a third-class city on August 1, 1950. The Columbus Center, a turn-of-the-century school, now holds a county library branch, an auditorium and a senior center, and a Chinatown development opened near 3500 South and State Street in 2012.

At Fitts Park, three tributaries of Mill Creek come together. Nice place for a slow walk, and a good moment to notice the ordinary tells we associate with a disc: bending forward is hard, getting up from a bench is harder, and the pain eases for a while before it flares again.

What decompression involves, and what it tends to cost

The exam comes first. Dr. Cody Mecham looks at your history, runs an orthopedic exam and reviews relevant imaging to decide whether a disc is really the problem, since facet, sacroiliac and muscle pain aren't what the table is for.

A typical plan stretches 20 to 30 sessions over 8 to 12 weeks, and the first 8 to 12 treatments work as a checkpoint: no meaningful improvement, and the plan is reconsidered. Pregnancy, fusion hardware, a spinal fracture or instability, active cancer affecting the spine, an aortic aneurysm and osteoporosis past a safe threshold all rule it out. Session-level detail is on what spinal decompression is like week to week.

Money matters, and we'd rather be upfront. Medicare hasn't covered vertebral axial decompression since 1997, citing insufficient scientific data, and a 2020 FairWarning investigation put a full DRX9000 course at about $3,500; that's national reporting, not our price, which is set after the exam.

The evidence is mixed too. That's why what the studies found about decompression is worth ten minutes before you pay for anything. The home page covers the rest of spinal decompression in Salt Lake City, and when you're ready, schedule an appointment or phone (801) 590-8615.

Start with an exam, not a package

Dr. Cody Mecham checks whether your pain actually behaves like a disc problem before anyone talks about sessions. If decompression isn't a fit for you, that's the first thing you'll hear.
