What happens after you book
The first visit is an exam, not a table session.
Dr. Cody Mecham takes a history, runs an orthopedic exam and looks at any imaging that matters, because decompression is aimed at disc-driven pain and not at pain from the facet joints, the sacroiliac joint or a strained muscle.
If the exam points to a disc and nothing on the screening list rules you out, you'll get a plan: usually 20 to 30 sessions across 8 to 12 weeks, with the plan reconsidered if treatments 8 to 12 bring no meaningful change. If it points somewhere else, you'll hear that instead, along with what's more likely to help. What a plan involves is on what to expect from spinal decompression.
Worth having ready
Bring any MRI or X-ray reports, a list of your medications, and a rough timeline: when the pain started, what makes it worse, what you've already tried.
Money questions are fair game at that first visit too. Decompression is usually self-pay, and what Utah insurers say about it explains why, including how HSA and FSA funds fit in.

Do I need a referral to book?
Mecham Chiropractic says most people in Utah can see a chiropractor without a medical doctor's referral, so you can book directly. If your own insurance plan has referral rules, check those first.
Is the first appointment the decompression session?
The first appointment is an exam. Decompression only starts once that exam shows the pain behaves like a disc problem and nothing on the screening list rules it out.
What does the first visit cost?
Mecham Chiropractic prices care after the exam rather than publishing a figure, so ask what the exam itself costs when the clinic calls you back. A 2020 FairWarning report put a full DRX9000 course at about $3,500 nationally.
Can I book for someone else?
Send the form with your own contact details and explain who the appointment is for. The clinic will sort out the rest by phone, since the exam has to be booked with the person who has the pain.
